{Podcast} 10 Exciting New Ways to Engage Your Fans on Facebook

Even the best facebook content managers run out of post-spiration, occasionally. With new posts firing off every minute of the day, keeping people engaged on your page can be a challenge. I’ve posted all kinds of posts from images to video to news links and personal comments but in my experience there are specific posts that produce much higher engagement results.

Here are the 10 types of posts that in my experience consistently produce higher levels of engagement.

1. Pictures. images and photo albums are super popular with my facebook fans. Not only from my experience but I’ve been seeing lots of companies putting out photo albums of photos that really draw in the likes and comments. One picture can speak volumes but when you publish several photos in an album, it makes for a real fun story telling opportunity that really ups engagement by comments, likes and shares.

2. Fill in the blank. I love to play this game and they often end up being my highest performers. Let fans share their own perspective with you. Example would be “I love to dance when _____” or “Why do I _____ when ever I _____?”

3. Questions. Asking fans to share their story or point of view is a very effective way to increase engagement on your page. Simple comments like “What do you think?” “What is your story?” Or just plain comparisons like “Apple or HP?” Will surprise you in the amount of responses you’ll discover. Plus it’s a great way to get to know your facebook community.

4. Trivia and riddles. Your real brand fans as well as those who are not very well acquainted with your company would appreciate a little bit of trivia or sharing of historical company facts or even funny trivia facts about random things. I like quotes that are surprising. Be spontaneous and give it a try. Idea: “I’ll bet you didn’t know that I was a pro NFL Miami dolphins cheerleader 20 years ago in 1994.”

5. Quotes. People love quotes. Especially motivational ones. Look up this web site for some fun ideas. I love JFK, Monroe, Audry,Chanel, and Sting.

6. Videos. This one is a no-brainer. Videos, especially the unusual or funny ones, are always welcomed by fans. Rich media like pictures and videos are also one of the most shared formats on Facebook. My personal videos do way better than professional ones so keep it as authentic as you can and be spontaneous.

7. Celebrate milestones and say thank you. Did you reach an important milestone? Celebrate it with your people. We reached 500 fans, 500,000, or 1 million fans, etc. Thanking your fans for being a part of your amazing community. Share your good news.

9. Call to action. If you want your content shared or your posts to be liked or commented on, ask! Simple “Like [or share] this post if you agree” or “What do you think?” would do the trick. However, use it sparingly people don’t like to be spammed with calls to action 24/7 and don’t over tag people in your posts.

10.Talk about the inside scoop coming up on your page. A new photo album, a video or something cool your about to release. It may just strike a memory and they will come back to check it out.

And whatever you do, don’t automate your posts? Commit to at least one authentic post twice a day and show your fans you care enough about this community to create a custom message specifically for them every day.
