Every decade or so a new sound arrives that will make your ears stand to attention and every hair on your arms bristle and tingle with excitement at the discovery of not just something new but something great !.
This will certainly be the case with Josh Cormican a 20 year old singer / songwriter from Ireland who has just finished recording and producing this 4 track EP innocently yet deceptively titled “LITTLE BOY”. Little Boy, from start to finish is laced with emotion conveyed beautifully with Cormicans truly haunting voice and craft with the pen.
With Cormican’s hauntingly-affecting vocals that belie his tender years to the fore across all four tracks, the Little Boy EP crosses a wide spectrum of genres with each song almost as good as the last. Dreamers, the song that Tubular Bells producer Tom Newman said is ‘the best thing he has heard in ten years’ is an epic, almost Pink Floyd-esque piece of perfection with added hooks and grand instrumentation and rousing chanting backing vocals.
Little Boy is a beautiful paean to what seems to be lost love and days gone by that would trump the vast majority of Ed Sheeran singles – and I mean that in the best possible way – while Heart Of Gold is the most upbeat musically though its lyrics hint at something a bit more subtly opposite and Who Let The Light Out is a raw acoustic number that showcases Cormican’s talent for going back to basics.
Wonderfully produced and arranged this four track marvel has a song on it for everyone not only does this demonstrate the dexterity of Cormicans skill as a singer but his flexibility as a songwriter. This EP is a powerhouse of great music from start to finish and you will find yourself playing it over and over again trying to comprehend what your ears have just heard. But hey, don’t take my word for it discover this one for yourself – you will not be disappointed….
