The Recording Academy® Statement Re: Donna Summer
Five-time GRAMMY® winner Donna Summer had a dynamic voice and unique musical style that helped define the dance music genre in the ‘70s. She also was an artist who crossed many musical genres, as evidenced by her GRAMMY wins in the R&B, rock, inspirational and dance categories. Her talent was a true gift to the music industry, and our thoughts and sympathies are with her family, friends and fans throughout the world during this difficult time.

X-factor may be singing oops I did it again after their new season airs….
Simon Cowell and Fox television are gambling on pop icon Britney Spears and teen singer Demi Lovato to revive “The X Factor”, but for many media watchers it could be a case of “Oops!…” did they do it again?
Spears, 30, and former Disney Channel star Lovato, 19, are expected to bring in bigger, and more importantly younger, audiences when the singing contest returns for its second season on U.S. television in September after a weaker-than-expected debut in 2011.
But whether viewers will tune in is less certain, and the huge check Fox and the producers wrote – Spears is reported to be getting $15 million for one season – may not pay off, pop culture and TV experts say. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) Jill Serjeant
The MTV Video Music Awards ceremony is getting some roomier new digs
MTV’s annual awards ceremony is moving to Los Angeles’ Staples Center this year, giving it a lot more elbow room than its previous location, the Nokia Theatre.
The Staples Center, home venue to the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings, has a seating capacity approaching 20,000 for concerts and special events, compared to the Nokia’s 7,100 capacity.
An MTV spokesperson told TheWrap that the move to the Staples Center will “provide us with an opportunity to execute our vision at a new size and scale while maintaining the intimacy of the musical performances that the VMAs have become legendary for.”
“Staples Center is incredibly excited to have the opportunity to host the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards,” Lee Zeidman, senior vice president & general manager of Staples Center, said of the move.
While the VMAs have been held at a variety of locations in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Las Vegas since its maiden ceremony in 1984, the Nokia had hosted the event for the past two years. The 2012 Video Music Awards will be broadcast live on MTV on September 6.

Lady Gaga Gets Concert Permit Revoked
Pop star Lady Gaga has been refused a permit to perform in the Indonesian capital next month over security concerns, police said on Tuesday, after Islamic groups voiced strong objections to her “vulgar” style. Three Islamic groups have expressed their opposition to the concert on June 3, demanding it be stopped, national police spokesman Saud Usman Nasution said by telephone.
Indonesia, a secular state, has the world’s largest population of Muslims as well as significant minorities of Christians, Buddhists and Hindus. “She’s a vulgar singer who wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil’s child and that she will spread satanic teaching,” said Salim Alatas, the Jakarta head of hardline Islamic Defender Front (FPI). “This is dangerous.” More than 30,000 concert tickets from a total of 40,000 tickets had been sold, said the Jakarta Post newspaper. Tickets ranged in price from 465,000 rupiah ($50.35) to 2.25 million rupiah ($240). (Reporting by Olivia Rondonuwu; Editing by Matthew Bigg and Jeremy Laurence)
