1. Three things that would surprise you about me.
My favorite kind of food is Korean BBQ.. there’s something about the taste that I really enjoy. I’m a big Lost fan and pretty much anything by JJ Abrams. I used to work as a baggage handler at Toronto international Airport and really enjoyed being around planes.

2. I have mixed feelings about the music business.
On one hand I feel like there are so many ways to connect with your fans, produce videos, record and get out there. At the same time I feel that consumers feel overwhelmed and saturated with all the music that is out there that the perceived value of music has dropped. I used to enjoy buying albums and enjoying the entire project as opposed to just buying the songs that you hear on the radio. The good news is that I feel like I am getting closer each day at figuring out how to connect with people and help them experience my music for it’s lyrical content and the stories associated with them.

3. Three words that describe you.
Fun, Bright, and Pumped. Life is too short to take yourself serious and humor is a great way to connect with people. My lyrics and music will also have a bright positive message in it.. it will make you feel better and I hope that I can make people excited about their selves and the relationships around them.

4. Single most influential is a tough one.. but I would have to say it’s Billy Joel. I love his songwriting, energy, and the variety of themes he has written about.

 5. My goals are to continue writing songs that people will use as the soundtrack of there lives. My songs will be heard by a lot more people across the country and the world. Besides currently writing, recording, and touring I also run a music school called the Rock Zone and I help other budding songwriters learn the process of being developing artists. As of July I am relocating to Nashville and I have promised myself to be open to learning new things there.

Forbes Hot List to Watch (Forbes)
Social networking can be a powerful tool for celebrities.

1. Rihanna: 23.8 million Twitter.com followers and 59.6 million Facebook.com fans.
The 24-year-old pop singer, Rihanna seems to know it best as she holds the leading spot on Forbes fab list. She tweets everything. She not only encourages her fans to buy her music and watch her videos, she lets them in on her daily life, posting photos of her friends and family. The only negative aspect is Rihanna follows only 843 people demonstrating that her conversations are one sided.

2. Lady Gaga: 28-million Twitter followers and 53 million Facebook fans
Gaga uses her Twitter feed to tell her Little Monsters about upcoming albums, tour dates and what she’s eating.

3. Eminem: 11.9 million Twitter and 60.3 million Facebook fans
Eminem, who ranks third on our list, is a little more restrained than some of his peers. His main platform is Facebook where he has the most fans of any of our Social Networking Superstars: 60.3 million. But his feed tends to be heavily promotional with videos and plugs for the artists on his Shady Records label.

4. Justin Bieber: 26 million Twitter followers, 45.8 million Facebook fans
Justin Bieber, who ranks fourth with 26 million Twitter followers and 45.8 million Facebook fans, is more interactive with his online fans. He knows he has them to thank for his fame. Bieber was discovered on YouTube and is a child of social networking. He keeps his fans close by retweeting them and sharing pictures and thoughts from his travels. He’s also generous about listening to his fans. He follows 123,143 people.

5. Katy Perry: 24.5 million Twitter followers, 45.7 million Facebook fans
Like the other young pop stars on this list, Perry makes excellent use of Twitter, talking to her fans and share funny photos and videos in a way that makes them all feel like Perry is their best buddy. Her Facebook page is more of a promotional site.

6. Shakira: Twitter followers: 17.6 million, Facebook fans: 52.5 million
The Colombian pop star is one of the most popular celebrities on Facebook with 52.5 million fans. She uses her page not only to promote her newest music and videos but to post vacation photos like the ones she recently took on a trip to the south of France. She posts on Twitter and Facebook in both Spanish and English.

7. Christiano Ronaldo: Twitter followers: 12 million, Facebook fans: 47.5 million
The Portuguese soccer star is the most popular athlete on social media. He doesn’t tweet often and his posts are mostly humble notes about how grateful he is for his fans and to be playing soccer. His Facebook page features the same content but fans can see photos of the Real Madrid star without having to click through.

8. Taylor Swift: Twitter followers: 17 million, Facebook fans: 33.6 million
Yet another young pop star on our list. Swift, who excels at writing songs that seem to honestly reflect the struggles of being a young girl in love, uses social media to get closer to her fans by posting photos of things like her cat and her coffee cup. Like many celebrities, she reserves her Facebook page for more straightforward promotional items.

9. Lil Wayne: Twitter followers: 7.9 million, Facebook fans: 40 million
The hip-hop star likes to take keep his social media feeds clean. Right now on Twitter and Facebook he has mostly photos and congratulations messages to the Olympic winners and retweets from fans telling him how much they love his music.

10. Selena Gomez: Twitter followers: 12.3 million, Facebook fans: 33 million
Gomez is no dummy. She uses the power of her social network to promote Postcard On The Run, a company she’s an investor in that has an app that lets you turn iPhone photos into snail-mail postcards. It’s nice for fans though because it means the young pop star posts photos from her vacations and tours including some with her boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

Join host Jacqueline Jax as she speaks with talented sax musician Luis Alas. Discussing the music business, being true to your self and shooting for the life you love. With a live music spin from artists all over the world.

Connect with Luis Alas and mention heard him on A.V.A Live Radio for a free download..
Twitter : @luisajazz    www.facebook.com/LuisAJazz

1) What are three things that would surprise us to know about you?
Luis Alas: I worked for most of my professional career as a law enforcement officer, including as a Federal Air Marshal after 9/11.
2) How do you feel about the music business today?
Luis Alas: I this is a very interesting time for music. Between social media, online radio and download technology, when was it possible for an unsigned artist to get recognized and listened to in Asia, Europe and beyond? Because people no longer have to buy a complete album, now artists need to make every song count. It is exciting time indeed.
3) Name three words that best describe you and why?
Luis Alas: Tenacious: If I believe in something, I will not quit till I get the outcome I want or need. I will work as hard as it takes and do what ever it takes to make it happen.
Passionate: I don’t think anyone in this industry can do what they do without being passionate about music.
Romantic: Though I love funk and soul, I absolutely love romantic music. It is music that allows me to express feelings in the most profound ways.
4) Who was the single most influential person in your music journey so far?
Luis Alas: Wow, this is a tough one. There have been so many that have had a deep impact but I will boil it down to two. My wife and friend Johnny Holliday, both believed in me that I could be a solo artist. To my wife I have always been the greatest sax player, she will listen to Koz or Marienthal and say your style is different than theirs but just as good.
My buddy Johnniw Holliday a fellow musician which I have worked with for over 20 years. After playing for him at the Jazz In The Gardens Festival in Miami, he told me; “I’m sorry, but I won’t be hiring you any more as my sax player.” when I asked why, he replied; “You need to be on stage on your own as a solo artist.. With you I will never play sax on stage cause you out play me. Even as an artist, you out perform me. You need to go solo so hopefully I can open for you some day.” and that is the day I started working on becoming a solo artist.
5) What are your music plans for the future? Where would you like to be in 2 years?
Luis Alas: I hope to have my album out this fall at the latest, and hope that the rest of the album is received like the single. If it is, I hope to tour. Within two years, I hope to have a better organized management team, be touring and working on album #2.

Also With Music From: Johnny Juarez, Joshua Stedman, Jesse Potter, Shauna Sweeney, Lani Nash, Monte Rosa, Underground Junction and Ryan Stone.

Hot-Topic-Tuesday-Time-Mana

This weeks Hot Topic Tuesday comes directly from our online community focusing on one very important question as shared after Thursdays “Marketing Tip of the Day: Striking a Balance, When To Engage and When To Work”.

Question submitted by singer Michael Egleton

michael egletonMs. Jax,
This is right up my alley! I tried handling email every few days and with the amount of emails that stack up in a few days, it seem like it’s even more work. Yes, it has cut deeply into my creativity time and my personal life. Sometimes other areas of my life go lacking and I do hear about it from my wife!!!!! lol With this said, I handled the wife part by agreeing to a certain block of time for the computer, which can take up time and included her in what I’m doing to allow her to see first hand, what’s going on. Now she understands a little more about this part of things. Now I’m working towards cutting back the other time, which I have let get away from me. How do I get it back? I haven’t fished in so long, I’ve forgotten how to even set up my pole! lol – Thanks Ms. Jax

Hi Michael,
I hear your struggle and I experience it myself all the time. As my ideas for projects flow, my brand grows and the weeks get more demanding, I find that my time gets divided more and more until I have to stop the process for some reflective evaluation.
Over the years I’ve tried many balancing methods, organizing books and time saving tips but even if you perfect the art of time saving, it really comes down to is this, one simple statement… Stop competing with yourself and start factoring in the things that allow you to relax, recharge your batteries and leave you feeling inspired…..

When your building your own brand and marketing your projects online it’s really easy to focus on the short term while loosing sight of the whole picture. Let me give you some key points that may help to ease your stress and get you back on track.

Be realistic: Learning how to market and build a brand is a commitment. It takes focus, passion, determination and time. Although you may have the first three traits in order, the time factor isn’t what you think. By time I mean you must consider your brand as a business that will evolve and strengthen over time with your consistent steady effort. It’s important to be realistic about your goals. If you set really challenging ones that don’t leave you with any time to enjoy your life, then your just being way to hard on yourself.

Thanks for the great question and honest comment. Jacqueline Jax – Host of www.AvALiveRadio.com

Top 10 Tips For Better Tip Management
1) Prepare: Being prepared for the day ahead is key to staying focused and not loosing your mind. Creating a task list for the next day the night before will help you relax, sleep better and clear your mind so you can get some much needed rest. I start to prepare my task list at 6pm before I stop working and after I’ve finished email. Keep you task list handy so you can add things before you go to bed or in the morning while your getting ready for you day.

2) Schedule Your Time: Use a day planner to schedule in time to live your life. Your day planner should have time blocked out for each of your tasks as well as appointments, social media and email. Most importantly don’t forget to schedule in breaks, meals and free time. By creating a schedule you’ll not only feel more in control of your time, you’ll feel more in control of your life. This is what my typical day looks like: 7-8am wake up coffee and email :: 8-9am get ready workout :: 9-10am breakfast with my family :: 10-12pm work :: 12-1 pm lunch with friends :: 1-3pm work :: 3-4pm break, walk :: 4-5pm email :: 5-6pm work :: 6-6:30pm Make my schedule for tomorrow :: 6:30pm on free time… (Dinner, social media, play time) 10pm get to bed.

3) Start Early: Have you ever noticed that successful people all tend to go to bed early and wake up early? To be on your game, calm and thinking clearly you must arrange your life so that you get enough sleep. Typically I need 8hours for my best self to shine through but you have to do what works best for you. Just keep this in mind, your head is clearest and able to handle the most difficult tasks early in the day when your rested. Late risers tend to be sluggish and slower at accomplishing tasks over the coarse of the day so consider that fact if your playing or working late into the evening. Eventually that schedule will catch up with you.

4) Get Organized: Being organized helps you to find things, think clearly and stay focused. If your looking for things all the time and unable to remember what your supposed together done, you’ll drive yourself crazy and waste a ton of time. Get yourself a system that works for you and stick with it. I use a day planner for details and daily tasks, huge monthly calendar where I can write an over view, and legal pads or my iPad to write my articles, interview questions, and stories. To keep everything organized I have a filing cabinet and files that hold my papers on previous or future topics and projects so when I need to refer back to my notes like “Top 10 Twitter tips” I can find them in an instant.

5) Prime Time: Its really important that you get in touch with your most productive time of day. If mornings are your most productive, then schedule your most difficult tasks in the mornings. By Scheduling your most difficult tasks during this time, you’ll breeze through it and be able to stay focused. Just be careful to consider the accessibility of others if they are required to complete your tasks. You don’t want tone held up waiting for others in order to finish what you started.
Watch the Clock: Even if you have to use a timer, it’s important to take breaks when your supposed to in order to avoid project fatigue. My best example for this is during video edits. Video editing is always a task that takes longer than expected so even if I can’t finish, I always put it away when I’m supposed to so that when I can come back to it, I’m fresh and more productive.

6) Social media time: Handling your social media postings is supposed to be fun but if you have really popular pages it can get to be a time consuming task getting back to everyone and keeping your pages updated. I recommend checking on your pages during the most active times and on specific days. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays join in on Twitter and add new content to Facebook for 15 min mornings or evenings. Tuesday and Thursday respond to blog comments 30 minutes. Fridays: spend 1 hour analyzing your traffic at your blog or website.

7) Auto posting: This is such an amazing way to automatically feed valuable content to your social media pages. Most blog builder sites like WordPress and tumblr have an auto post setting that will share your posts automatically to your social media feeds. Be sure to make sure that you pages auto feed to at least one other social media page. For instance, when I post an article on my WordPress blog I have it set so it automatically sends that post out to my Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, tumblr and reverbnation page. This is a terrific way to make sure that you are keeping all your social media pages up to date.

8) Keeping Notes: one of my best time saving tips that I use constantly is keeping notes. I have a legal pad that I keep by my side and of coarse my phone for jotting down ideas. It really helps when I’m ready to update my social media pages with content, when I need to remember ideas I had for articles, and especially when I need to remember those amazing ideas I have lying in bed at night. LoL

9) Relax: I saved one of the best for last. Incorporating the word “Relax” into my thoughts and actions is very important to me. When you have a very busy schedule and lots of people in your life, it really helps to know yourself and recognize when it’s time to relax. Keeping your calm is essential to staying productive because if you have a melt down, consider yourself out for the count. Melt downs cause your brain to freeze and slide your body into an intense exhaustion that kills your creativity and renders you incapable of making good decisions. So do yourself a favor, remind yourself that your life is not a race, your building a life you’ve always dreamed of and you are in total control of your schedule. It is only as busy as YOU allow it to be.

marketing-tip-of-the-day-2
Recently I was asked to write about balancing a schedule. Running a web site and online community may be enjoyable but it isn’t always easy. There is a little decision I have to make for myself every day that has to do with balance.

Balance must always be considered when running any business especially an online one because the one resource we never have enough of is time. Having enough time to run your business, create content, interact on social media and answer emails requires a daily evaluation of your time.

Some people advise to engage with everyone who comments on your site or tweets at you. I have tried this, and it works for a while, but there becomes a point where you have to decide if you want to spend your time engaging with everyone or spend your time creating quality content. Personally, I use my cell phone and iPad to stay in touch and typically spend 30 minutes every morning having coffee with my emails, facebook messages and tweets but its still never enough. So to handle the hundreds of messages that come in from my various blogs and social pages, I grab additional time on breaks and some evenings.

With that said, I do advise that you engage at least twice a week especially with your most engaged followers and supporters. Further if you should find yourself with hundreds of emails in your inbox and no more time available, consider posting group greetings and updates explaining why you haven’t been able to answer your personal emails. I also like to encourage everyone to leave me a comment on a post if the message is really important so I won’t miss time related messages.

Bottom line, set aside your quiet creation times and turn off the social feeds and phones while your working so you won’t get distracted. Once your done achieving your daily or weekly goals, then enjoy your social time.

marketing-tip-of-the-day-2Have you ever noticed that once Young the Giant picked up the pace of their now popular song, Cough Syrup, their record sales and popularity began to sore?

The same thing can be said for your marketing strategy. This year I have studied and spoken to many online brands in music, beauty and fashion bloggers, youtube channels, web sites, modeling, pretty much every category out there and one thing has rang true.

This has made a consistent difference in everyone’s marketing strategy. So the next time your feeling a little lazy, discouraged, or unmotivated think about this post. I can assure you that people are watching and listening when you post your messages, write your blog, launch a video or share your photos. But in this crazy online world of marketing you can just as easily disappear when you stop the stream.

If your a musician, your probably saying: Sure, but can I sell more than 5 cds per year if I out more time into it? Yes you can. I’ve been working with artists selling thousands of copies online every month. But let me be bold and up front with you. To succeed on the Internet, you must prepare yourself for the long haul and prepare to work hard attracting fans until the buzz hits and you take off. Even once it does, you will still have to be there consistently for your fans if you want to keep their interest and support. Success on the Internet won’t come overnight. You must have a quality web site and quality music to sell with something to say. If you take your work seriously, so will everyone else who follows you. Look at Taylor Swift, she doesn’t miss the meet and greets, she takes pictures with her fans, and she takes time to address them personally. No more excuses, step it up!

Help is on the way!!!!! A daily step by step guide is coming to help you with your daily music branding and marketing plan.

Hot Topic Tuesday How to go viral

Listen in to the radio feed : www.blogtalkradio.com/avaliveradio/2013/05/28/hot-topic-tuesday-top-10-tips-for-making-a-viral-video-1

Join host Jacqueline Jax and George Allen for a Hot Topic Tuesday discussion about what it takes to make a video go viral.. In case you didn’t already realize, viral videos are definitely what you should be shooting for when trying to build your brand and make yourself stand out from the crowd. If your super creative, then shoot for the stars and try to make all your videos go viral but to take some pressure off, let’s start with just one. If you have your own YouTube channel filled with great videos about your brand but your not getting the hits you need I have some fabulous tips to inspire you and get your videos competing against the odds.

1) Funny: funny is the leading trait of a viral video. Where other themes like cute, scary, weird and unusual may do well nothing inspires people to share like laughter. If you can make someone laugh, they can’t resist sharing that chuckle with their friends.

2) Eye Catching: the game is won or lost in the first few seconds so you’ll want to put your best foot forward in the beginning of your video to grab a viewers attention. Make it eye-catching and make sure it’s memorable.

3) Music- what’s a video without music? Even if your creation isn’t a music video, be sure to infuse it with music that supports the action. It sets the tone, supports your content, and keeps your viewer engaged.

4) Stunts: although very dangerous for novices to attempt. Stunts tend to do well. But let’s not get crazy. You don’t have to risk your neck for a stunt to be great. Enlist the professionals and only do what you know. FYI.. I am in no way recommending that you go out there and risk your life. Practice common sense and leave the really dangerous stuff on the green screen.

5) Reaction Videos on the fly: an honest and in the moment reaction makes a great video theme. Keep that camera ready for those opportunities when something is amusing. You may even want to plan a spoof or punk a friend. Just keep it honest and don’t encourage or support violence.

6) Pop Culture: Getting inspired by what’s happening in your own pop culture will always be a smart move especially if your theme has a shelf life. Although some pop culture references disappear quickly, many themes hold buzz for centuries and incorporating them into your video can work in two ways. 1- making your video more relatable to people who embraced that piece of pop culture 2- catching and riding a trend wave A few themes that have never passed and will always have a following are…. Star Wars, Star Track, Superman, Batman, South Park, The Beatles, Elvis, Ghost Buster,

7) Copy-cats: I couldn’t make a top 10 without addressing the copy cat ideas. Parodies, remixes, mash-ups definitely get attention when launched immediately after a viral video has sprung into the top spot. But if your going to do one, make sure you do it quickly. Once a video has achieved viral status, you’ll want to be one of the first to launch while the idea is hot so you don’t get lost in the mix or catch the video on its down cycle.

8) Originality: Most of the best videos that i have seen are born from original ideas. The concepts are simple and fresh being born in that moment the camera hits its subject. Seeing things through the creators eyes is what makes it so real, so incredibly interesting and fascinating to watch.

9) Chemistry: Many times when your watching a video that’s hilarious there’s a comical chemistry between the participants. This chemistry that exists in its natural state makes the video what it is.

10) Lack of Planning: Over planning can kill a video. Any time situations occur and people go back to try to recreate the situation, they take away the most important elements that make a video outstanding. There is no word for it but it’s a combination of my previous points I’m giving you here today. So keep your cameras and your phones on and in that moment, is really where the most viral videos are born.

20130525-195056.jpg

marketing-tip-of-the-day-2Creating advertising that fascinates and entertains people is a huge challenge but it’s also an incredible opportunity to grab the attention of millions over night. Today’s audience is hard to please and even harder to get the attention of. Even more so with Teens and young adults. These fast moving, game addicted groups definitely don’t want to be advertised to; they demand interesting, funny, captivating, fascinating, and compelling media creations.

So what’s the strategy that’s sweeping the nation? Well it’s right under your nose and has been for year. It’s in every Super Bowl add, it’s having a wardrobe malfunction on stage, it’s landing on the moon, it’s naked on the news, it’s jumping from a plain, it’s a slam dunk, it’s on your phone, it’s on your mind, it’s making you laugh. Confused? Intrigued? Well let me explain how it works.

This high bred advertising I’m talking about is called Advertainment.
Advertainment can be seen as a simple paid product placement in a TV show, video game, sport event, entertainment show, talk show, music video, YouTube video or movie. Some happen by chance but most are designed and created to show you a product or brand while entertaining you in a memorable way.

Think about the Toby Keith’s Red solo cup song at the CMAs, or the blaring red Coca-Cola cups on American Idol’s judges’ table. How about the American Idol car videos? A branded segment disguised as a music video. How about the Evian “Live Young” videos or the Old Spice “Responses” videos. And who can forget those super bowl commercials??

Video is a great way to bring attention to a business or product, strengthen a brand and start a viral chat.

How do you measure the popularity of a fascinating Advertainment? These campaigns are measured on a “True Reach” basis, according to Brian Shin from Adage.com. By True Reach, he includes the original clips that the brands and agencies upload as well as the clips audiences copy, mix, mash, spoof and repost across the web.

Would you like to know my Top 10 Tips for Making a Viral Advertainment video?  I’ll be publishing that next so stay tune and make sure your a subscriber to my list at

These days everyone has ideas but very little money to try them out. I’m going to give you the best free blogging resources that I’ve discovered and personally used currently available on the Internet. These blogging tools will get you up and going in very little time with no money involved and without you having to learn about advanced web building code.

Here are three terrific free blogging providers.

1) WordPress: I use WordPress for several web site blogs (www.AvALiveRadio.com , www.BlondiBeach.com , www.JaxCouture.com) I’m inviting you to take a careful look at them so you can see the terrific free template designs available on the WordPress system. WordPress has its own community of serious writers of every niche that you can interact with. Sign up is easy with the site by choosing a name for your blog, entering your information, username, password and email. Then watch some easy setup videos (here) to learn about using their templates, widgets and tools. WordPress does have advertising limitations when hosting your blog on their web sight for free but if you decide to use your own .com and use WordPress but host it yourself, there are no limitations on selling advertising on your pages.

2) Blogger: I have used blogger and liked what they had to offer. About half the fashion, beauty and personal bloggers today use blogger. This platform is integrated with Google Adsense, which can make you a little cash on the side if your blog becomes popular. But before you get crazy seeing $$$ signs, consider that it takes at least 1 year for you to start building a following and Google adsense pays a very small percentage so you need tons of traffic to make a decent dollar. On the downside, Blogger doesn’t offer much in the way of customization like wordpress. its a very basic interface that requires more knowledge of HTML and CSS to change up your web site.

3) Tumblr: I have a tumblr (Jacqueline Jax Daily- here) that I love to use for notes and uploading daily photos. Tumblr is simple to use and a clutter free platform. It’s much different from the other two because it has very few personalization features, but the simple interface is easy to use and works alot like facebook in the way that people frequent the feed and can repost and like your posts easily.

Email marketingMarketing Tip of The Day: Ideas for Building Your Email List

Now that you have a fabulous web site and a few well written newsletters to share, it’s time to start building your list. Finding new prospective clients is easier than you think. Here are some places to find great new people who will share your love for your business. With a little consistency and determination you can build a terrific list of supportive people who will engage with your content.

1. Social Media:
Facebook and twitter are great places to meet new friends and engage new clients. Look for people with shared interests and ask if they would like to join your list by sending them to your web sites welcome page that asks them to opt in. You can also signup for a free account on mailchimp.com and send links for your list signup form directly to your Facebook and twitter.
2. LinkedIn Groups:
Start a group and participate in multiple groups that share your interests. You’ll find thousands of people willing to share their projects and learn about yours.
3. On The Streets:
You may not realize how many people you speak to every single day. In work, at the grocery store, party’s, events, seminars, galleries, mixers, happy hour, school. Get cards or ask for a contact email from everyone you have a conversation with. Over the month, you’ll have more than you think. Plus people who you’ve met and spoken with aren’t likely to delete your emails.
Make an effort to collect email information at your music performances, mixers and conferences.
4. Giveaway:
Everyone loves a free giveaway. Offer a cool prize in a free giveaway contest for signing up. Blast it out to Facebook, twitter, everywhere you can so people can easily find it.

Marketing Tip of the Day: What’s In It For Me Emails?

In today’s busy world, many of us struggle with email overload, so it makes sense that we look for the immediate personal benefit before opening an email message. Keep this in mind when deciding on an email message title. Think about answering the recipients question, “What’s in it for me?”
Put yourself in their position and focus on the benefits, what would make you take the time to open and read a message? Bottom line if you want your stats to improve, start with an awesome informative title.

Marketing Tip of the day AvA Live RadioReviews are important. We make shopping decisions and measure credibility by feedback that we see online. You cannot please everyone all the time and even the best of the best receive some negative reviews. But did you realize that one negative review on your sales page can damage your brand and stop sales significantly. In this case, silence is your worse enemy. If a customer writes a negative review and there is no response from you, it can be interpreted that you don’t care about your customers satisfaction or concerns. Instead, neutralize a bad online review by contacting the customer privately to work through the issue. Meanwhile, proactively ask happy customers to write positive reviews for you.

Note: If someone has left you negative articles online via web page the best way to counter those reviews is to publish good content on the web to get stronger search results. Search engines will move most recent articles to the front of the searches so by posting newer articles you will move the bad reviews further out of the way.

Color branding logos

Marketing Tip of the Day: Know What You Stand For

Building a strong brand that clearly communicates your voice to the world should be your top priority whether your writing a blog, selling products or producing your own music. Two key elements in doing this successfully are determining your niche and knowing what you stand for.

Your niche is a more specific description of your brand. For instance, if your a musician, then music is your brand type but your niche may be country song writer, punk alternative rock, coffee house acoustic, romantic piano jazz or strong empowered woman. LOL

If your a fashion blogger, your brand type is fashion but your niche may be ladies luxury resort wear, DIY home made clothing projects, food and fashion lifestyle, or dressing for your figure type.

The list of more specific values that identify your niche is endless because it can be any combination of descriptive words that more accurately describes your brand.

Once you have identified your niche you’ll want to work at developing your voice or “what you stand for”. Standing for something isn’t about getting up on your soap box and yelling until the world listens, it’s more about being confident in what you have to say. Your voice is your signature, your style, and that special unique something that stands out from everyone else. It is conveyed through your images, your web page design, and your words. Working all that out may take some time, but it’s so worth it.

By determining these values that carve out your niche, you will be able to maintain your focus as you work towards building your brand and your readers/ listeners/ fans will not only be able to relate to you in a more meaningful way, they will remember you.

How To Promote on Twitter

Twitter can be a real mystery but the power it has as a traffic driver and messenger of valuable content is limitless. Here are some quick tips to help you with your tweets.

1) Less is more. Leave room for retweets. Don’t take up all 140 characters so retweets can be personalized by your followers.

2) Go for quality not quantity by limiting the number of promotional tweets so you don’t flood your feed with advertising. Adds should be no more than 30% of your tweets.

3) Don’t buy it back! Be careful not to over-sell yourself. Instead compose tweets that matter with helpful topics leading to your content. Tweet fun images with short descriptions and tweet-able sayings or thoughts.

I have some really important news for those of you who are working hard to take your music marketing to the next level. Check it out….

“A recent Nielsen study found that 40 percent of U.S. consumers—those classified as fans—are responsible for 75 percent of music spending. These fans, who spend between $20 billion and $26 billion on music each year, could spend an additional $450 million to $2.6 billion annually if they had the opportunity to snag behind-the-scenes access to the artists along with exclusive content. The study results, presented at this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, showed that the high level of spending from a relatively narrow group of music consumers is dominating the share of overall music spend. These big spenders have indicated that, at large, they’d be willing to pay even more for exclusive extras, like in-studio updates, real-time emails, pre-orders, limited editions, autographed copies, vinyl records and lyric sheets handwritten by the artist.” (Study from www.nielsen.com)

Hummm. So how does this translate? Basically you should be stepping up your product offerings to your fans. Engagement is the goal and experimentation is key. If you want to generate more sales, you need to get creative with your marketing and start offering exclusive items for your most active fans to connect with you on a more personal level. Once your music is finely tuned and pumping out on all cylinders then start offering special exclusive extras to your mailing list and keep track of which offers pan out the best. This will vary depending on your genre and fan base so mix it up until you discover what they like and go forward with those types of products.
