{Secrets of Success} 5 Business Lessons Learned From Swimming With The Sharks

Are you ready to swim with the sharks? This video should get you motivated. Listen to the stories of Entrepreneurs who have a dream and are willing to go all in for success. It’s the American Dream and it’s free to anyone with a great idea and who is willing to do anything it takes to get the product on the table.

5 Lessons Learned from Shark Tank:
1) Don’t be greedy. I can’t think of a business that doesn’t measure it’s success by value. Don’t be greedy with your partners and don’t be greedy with your customers. The difference between a successful product and a bomb is perceived value. That means you offer value at a great price.

2) Networks are important: getting involved with the right people for your business is very important. People bring their experience and their own trusted resource networks to the table when you get into business with them. For instance, Lori Greiner brings her knowledge of patents and trademarks as well as the ability to get any product she deems as a “Hero” to QVC.

3) Listen: no one knows everything and there’s nothing more annoying than watching an entrepreneurs ask for help then not listen to valuable advise. There is value in everything, it’s up to you to figure it out but you can’t do that if you don’t listen to what others have to offer. After all the advise is free so why turn it down?

4) Know Your Business: Without being a know it all, be sure to research your business and market thoroughly. The bottom line is you can’t compete if you don’t know what customers know. Customers are savvy online shoppers these days and search engines are excellent at offering comparative suggestions. If you don’t know where you lie in your own market, you can’t possibly swim successfully with the sharks.

5) Be Flexible To Change: You may be good but you can always be better. Being inflexible to change can destroy a company. Many great ideas die a disastrous death by partner conflicts, owners not willing to adjust prices, or alter products slightly for a new market. Just as the earth evolves, you must to so stay loose and flex when you need to. Where there’s a will there’s a way. “No I can’t” is never an option for a successful entrepreneur. It’s “yes I Can” that wins races.

{Secrets of Success} Digging Deep For Interviews

Jacqueline_Jax_avalive_radioI interview artists and entrepreneurs weekly for the station and am amazed at how many people spend so little time on their interviews. I’ll start by sending them about 10 questions to help them create a story about themselves and their work and am often disappointed in the responses. Although entrepreneurs typically have a lot of interview savvy, giving up lots of personal stories and playful accounts about how they interact with their business and the people in it, Artists take the longest to respond and often hold back every aspect of what makes them interesting to the readers. Amazing to me, since entertainers  should be able to entertain. Today’s music artist seems guarded and scared of revealing those wonderful frailties that make their stories so unique, interesting and relatable.

Recently, I received an interview back from an artist after several weeks filled with vague one sentence answers that offered no details. They had flattened their lives so senselessly that if I would have posted the interview, people may have unsubscribed from our web site and at the very least taken a pass on the artist no matter how talented they were.

My point of telling you this story is to enlighten and hopefully inspire you to pay more attention to how you present yourself to people. It’s important to build a consistent story line of how you started expanding into the many wonderful experiences that brought you to where you are today. That’s what makes you unique and interesting to people. To further, illustrate this idea, I thought I would share one of my letters with you so you can benefit from the perspective.

(The artists name has been excluded to protect the innocent as they learn how to perfect their interviewing skills.)

Jacqueline Jax:  Hello _____,
Yes, we are all very busy with multiple projects and jobs. I myself run 3 companies and still make the time to do these interviews for wonderful artists like yourself. I can’t impress upon you the importance of investing yourself in everything you do, especially when it promotes something you work so hard for.

I do a magazine interview every week for one network or another and have found that those interviews about me really work together to paint a full picture of my journey. People decide through these interviews if they want to know more about me. #1 artists and entertainers at the top of their game, spend time from 7-10am of every morning interviewing with multiple people and radio stations regardless of their late night activities or long work hours. . It’s a huge part of this business and being successful.

Thanks for your answers but please go back and expand.  We have discovered that content is the key to great search engine listings. If you could expand a bit on each of your answers, I think they would be more engaging and readers may be more interested in relating to you.

Quick and vague answers tell the reader nothing about who you are and what you stand for.

Isn’t that  one of the goals in doing the  interview to begin with?  We want you to get the most out of your interview with us so please take another pass at it and tell a little story or two about yourself by answering the how, why and the when of each question.

Do your best, this article will hold a valuable piece of internet real estate for many years to come with your name on it so make it a story that counts outlining the experiences that brought you to who you are today.

Best to you always,
Jacqueline Jax

Marketing Tip of the day: 3 Steps To Building Stronger Brand Awareness

Think about what benefits your Brand
How do we improve passion behind our brand: Avoiding a break in the chain.

The passion of the company founders for their brand is typically transferred to their employees and thus the customer. This energy must be transferred daily through each persons actions and constancy. But with that said, if any person in that company chain isn’t carrying the energy forward, that will cause a break in the chain. I will go through more on this in later discussions, but first here are 3 initial steps to building a stronger brand awareness.

1)   Memorability: making a lasting impression is one of the most important things that drives a brand. Presenting memorable moments, presentations, and product. How do we make our brand more memorable to the employees and the people who shop with us.

  1. Framework for a strong foundation: by laying a strong foundation down, a positive brand will be able to radiate outward in the daily activities of the employees as they sell the products.
  2. Material reminders: pieces of media, business cards, letter head, brochures.
  3. Social Events: gatherings of employees, customers and new people to introduce the brand and allow them to share and experience the company’s energy in a social atmosphere.
  4. Brand memorability: is the product memorable? What can you do to make it more memorable? Advertising?

2)   Perceived value: The value that the customer feels they are getting from doing business with your company is very important. If either the seller or the customer feels that the product is not worth the price or it doesn’t offer value for the purchase, your entire brand will be affected.

  1. Make sure that you research your market constantly to align your products with your competitors.
  2. List everything that makes your product unique and different from products or services that are similar

3)   Familiarity: Making your brand a familiar piece of everyone’s every day life, isn’t always possible but it’s important to strive to make your brand important within your own sub niche. Keep these concepts in mind.

  1. The more you are seen by someone, the more familiar you become to them.
  2. People who have never done business with you, will most likely do business with you once they become familiar with your brand.
  3. A recommendation from your client is the best way to get a new customer familiar with your brand products and services.
  4. Advertising is so important to becoming more familiar within your sub niche. Ads on local buses, news, blogs, social media, physical printed reminders are all great ways of reminding people about you and what you do.

Marketing Tip of the day: Framework for Creating a Stronger Internal Business Brand

Jacqueline-Jax-ShowDid you join us on facebook.com/AvALiveRadio yet? Maybe it’s time you joined the page so you won’t miss out on our conversations. Monday through Friday we give you daily social media marketing inspiration. Our tips keep you from getting lost and give you that daily direction for building a better facebook page that’s rich with content and more responsive readers.  – JAX

Marketing Tip of the day: Framework for Creating a Stronger Internal Business Brand

Step 1: DEFINE
Define what makes your organization unique, and what values you represent. Define the target audience for your products or services and gain an understanding of what this audience needs from your organization.

Step 2 : VALUE
Define the value you are delivering to your customers; what business problems do you hope to solve with your product or services? Identify any gaps between what is truly valuable to your customers and how you internally define your brand.

Step 3: TEST THE EXPERIENCE
Expand your focus group to include a range of customers, business partners and other important colleges. How does their experience with your company differ from your brand definition? Or is it consistent?

Step 4: STRATEGY
Most importantly identify gaps between how you define your brand and your business strategy. Is there a close alignment between what you believe your organizations represents and what will ultimately help achieve revenue. Check your quality. If you champion a particular element of your brand but don’t relay that consistently, then you would notice a gap between your brand and busin

Step 5: FRAMEWORK
Developing a simple brand framework will help you clearly articulate what your business strategy is striving to achieve. A creative team can work with the company employees to develop this framework and identify all the opportunities that your brand can be communicated through creative design and application.

Notes: Engaging the brand and relaying the experience: Do the employees relay the company brand to the customer through their actions, performance and daily connections?

Secrets of Success:: Changes To Facebook and Social Media That Will Effect Your Traffic

AVA_Facebook_Jacqueline_JaxChanges to facebook that will effect your reach and traffic:

Typically it’s a common practice to post different times per day on facebook so that you can increase the amount of people seeing your postings, but recently I discovered an article that facebook is making changes to the way that a post is being seen. Business pages are going to have to purchase adds in order to be seen by more than 1-6% of their followers in the news feed. Not fair perhaps, however it goes without saying that it is their prerogative to do so. I have always said that it’s best to build up our own mailing list, work directly from your own web site and never rely on only 1 form of social media for traffic. It’s best to remember that you don’t own those social media pages that you signup for and they can change the rules at any time. This article just adds fuel to the fire.  Facebook is making moves and changes in one way to filter to much spam and reposting, but in another to make money. You should be aware of the changes in the game and adjust your strategy accordingly.

A better plan for using Social Media to market your products

Want to hear about a better plan for marketing your goods? Let me walk you through my Sunday morning research as a guide line for a longer lasting marketing strategy. Learn more about the different social media platforms and why they may be a perfect fit for your business marketing plan.

Start with your own web site:

You own your web site and all the content on it so doesn’t it make more sense to focus on improving the content on your own web pages first? Listen to my latest show where I talked with web design specialist and SEO adviser Hector Torres from Idealocity.com about creating better SEO friendly content and how to tag your content so the search engines can recognize it. Listen to the show and read the notes: http://avaliveradio.wordpress.com/2014/04/10/secrets-of-success-advantages-to-a-wordpress-website-seo-tips-getting-views/

Discover which social media platforms are best for your business.

Not all platforms are equal and not all will get your products in front of the right group of people. Some are heavier with female buying traffic, some are just for building better brand awareness and others are great to let people know more about the face behind the brand. It’s best to identify what you want to accomplish and then start using the right social media platform to achieve your goal.

Pinterest:

If you sell fashion or beauty products, Pinterest is terrific to get your message out there because its heavy on female traffic already searching for those things. Very expensive paid advertising is on it’s way and has already been tested but 83 percent of “pinners” are women, compared to 53 percent of Facebook users and 49 percent of Twitter users.  Women are more likely to interact with brands on social media, and they buy more online.  http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/232418

Youtube

is a powerful visual platform that has the potential of reaching a viral amount of new people quickly depending on your message and how interesting your make your video. But it’s no easy task to creating something that will go viral. Instead of focusing on trying to create viral videos, you should dedicate your efforts to catering specifically to your target audience.  http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/230501  For instance, I just started a Home shopping show segment on AVA LIVE RADIO to talk about fashion  and style to my fashion clients on a visual platform that is easily seen. I’m not thinking about how to make the video’s go viral, I’m thinking about providing the best and most fashion informative content I can that will solve style issues. By answering my customers common fashion problems, I have the best chance at not only getting viewed by current clients but appealing to new ones as well. Check out the show if your curious: http://avaliveradio.wordpress.com/category/jax-couture-home-shopping/

Twitter

is an ongoing- in the moment conversation where you can reach out to people and actually get a reply on breaking news or announcements. But you really have to follow the trends and be quick to act on what people are searching for. I found a helpful twitter tips article from Entrepreneur magazine that may help you get in the game . I especially loved what they said about : “Save the sales pitch. Don’t get caught up in using Twitter as a selling tool. Instead, use it to increase customer loyalty and offer valuable information to your followers. Overmarketing will merely leave a sour taste in followers’ mouths, and you may even end up losing them if their feed gets too clogged with too many promotions. Be viewed as a resource, not a door to door .” salesperson. http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/230891

Facebook

is great to let customers get to know the people behind the brand. It’s not a place for spamming and just like I said at the beginning of this article, major changes have already been made to how your posts get filtered. So be sure to read the article I linked up and stay subscribed to us here at A.V.A Live Radio to stay up to date.  Basically, as I have researched, you’ll want to portray your business in a friendly, “sociable” manner, as a place where customers are treated well and “everybody knows your name.” Almost any business can benefit from having a Facebook page. But Facebook isn’t about selling.  http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/230020 Great information to keep in mind..

Linkedin

is a business to business connection platform where people are gathering resources and contacts for their businesses. It’s a great place to establish your credibility in your industry among your piers. “When a member publishes a post on LinkedIn, their original content becomes part of their professional profile, is shared with their trusted network and has the ability to reach the largest group of professionals ever assembled.” http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/231626 .. There are some awesome articles about linked in that I have gathered for you at the bottom of the page if your interested.

Instagram

This image dominant platform is fun to use but from a “marketing perspective, the community’s enthusiastic fan base and built-in social aspects make it an ideal place to connect with potential customers and build brand recognition. ” http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/226014
I enjoyed learning about these 3 tips to getting more likes on imgaes:  Keep it cool: Photos dominated by blues and other cool colors tend to garner more likes while photos with warmer oranges and reds do worse.
Master monochrome: The more dominant a single color is on an image, the more likes it could get. Pictures dominated by a single hue receive 40 percent more likes than those that don’t.
With color, less is more: It can be tempting to ratchet up the vibrancy, flooding your image with color to make it stand out. But in today’s overstimulated world, bright and vibrant colors can get lost. The proof is in the data: Curalate says less saturated images receive 18 percent more likes than their mover vibrant counterparts. http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/229901

Start a Mailing List:

Although you may think it’s old hat, a good old mailing list still works miracles at getting your message and offers directly to your customers. Use Mailchimp or an opt in subscription signup on your blog to collect those emails and stay in touch with those who want to hear from you. Keep your content fresh, updated and in motion. Make sure you are always competitive in price and offering incentives for people to visit often, don’t spam your followers but set up a consistent weekly schedule they can count on with fresh daily content on your web pages. If you want to compare the top 3 mailing list providers, I linked an article for you below.

I certainly hope that my research this morning helped you to get up to speed on the social media platforms and how to use them. There are more great articles linked for you below. I really hope you will subscribe to the web site today so you can join me again as I continue to share what I learn with you every Sunday morning and of coarse with my featured interviews during the week right here on AVA LIVE RADIO. – Jacqueline Jax

Kill the competition: How to Build Your Own Electronic Press Kit

20130719-210033.jpg
Sample page: www.reverbnation.com/jacquelinejax

Music industry professionals are loving the use of electronic press kits to not only see the full scope of an artists brand, presentation and fan response but to also to keep their offices clutter free. If you want to get serious about your music, add an electronic press kit to your promo plan. First impressions are everything when trying to get the attention of the music industry so make sure your press kit blows them away.

What to include:
A great press kit should include, your photos, music, story and fan demographics.

Where should you send it:
Press kits should be sent to labels, radio, online magazines, news papers, managers, venues and everyone else you want to get coverage from or do business with.

Who has the best deal?
I have shopped around for great deals on press kits for you and would recommend you check out Reverbnation. At only $5.95 for unlimited distribution, the tools and price for what they offer is unbeatable.

How easy is it to set up?
All you have to do is set up a free reverbnation page for your music or band and your account will ask you if you would like to automatically upgrade your account by adding options like: press kits, a music app, newsletters, distribution, etc. All you have to do is opt in for the press kit which you can cancel at any time should you feel your not using it or still not ready.

What are the advantages of the RPK (Reverbnation Press Kit)
As a bonus, you can opt in for opportunities to gain exposure for your music through Reverbnation and they will email you opportunities to submit your press kit to. I also like the way they automatically include all your goodies in very few clicks.

When do I need to get one?
You should get a press kit after your music is at its best, its available for sale, and you have built a strong and engaged fan base.

Here’s a page where you can get more Info when your ready:

Writing Authentic Content for Your Blog, Website and Social Media Pages

Jacqueline Jax branding marketingI have found, the single most important concept to focus on when writing or expressing content for your blog, web site, youtube channel, or social media pages is to be “Authentic”. When you speak about something you feel passionate about, your most authentic voice comes out and that will make your posts far more interesting and effective.

Have you ever noticed that the most interesting articles are those written by people sharing a part of their real lives? You are drawn in from reading about problems people have solved, projects they’ve worked on, challenges they’ve overcome, subjects they’ve researched out of genuine interest, their work, their hobbies, their families, their vacations, their collections…. In fact, this article your reading now is a product of a topic that I have spent countless hours researching.

Here are some interesting things to keep in mind when striving to write authentic content….

1. Speak from the heart: I just love reading content that is written like a story. When a blogger shares from their heart, it’s special and authentic. Even if they aren’t the best writer, I still enjoy experiencing that journey with them through their heart felt stories. When a fashion blogger shares photos and then makes comments under each photo to share a piece of the story, it’s so much more engaging and worth subscribing to.

2. Share a personal experience: Include your personal experience as well as helpful information so readers can savor the journey and get to know you through your content. If you post photo’s be sure to tell the story along with them so the reader can get a better sense of who you are and why that photo is special to you.

3. Comment on a topic your passionate about: Being passionate about a topic is so important. It’s impossible to write without inspiration. Be sure to select your topics with care because if your faking it, people can really tell.

4. Be useful: Be sure to add detailed and in-depth information about your topic that will offer your readers something interesting and useful. Make your article even more resourceful with links to a myriad of obscure yet supportive content on the subject that may be hard to find and be sure to title the blog post with rich and descriptive key words.

5. Use unique images and media: One thing I love is to see original images on a blog. Sometimes it’s difficult if your blogging about an item that you don’t physically own but if you put a little thought into it, I’m sure you can find a way to make the images unique. Use fonts, collage apps, filters or even photoshop to create a signature look that will be just yours.

On my personal internet journey, I have stumbled upon many terrific articles written by passionate people. The articles that I have book marked and left comments on have not only educated me but introduced me to so many interesting people. As a result of reading and commenting on what they have each shared, I have found myself in the middle of a fabulous circle of people who share similar interests and in turn support my projects as well. In some cases, I have traveled and am able to meet up with these new friends. I hope you’ll comment and introduce me to your world as well.

Hot Topic Tuesday: Top 10 Tips For Better Time Management

Hot-Topic-Tuesday-Time-Mana

This weeks Hot Topic Tuesday comes directly from our online community focusing on one very important question as shared after Thursdays “Marketing Tip of the Day: Striking a Balance, When To Engage and When To Work”.

Question submitted by singer Michael Egleton

michael egletonMs. Jax,
This is right up my alley! I tried handling email every few days and with the amount of emails that stack up in a few days, it seem like it’s even more work. Yes, it has cut deeply into my creativity time and my personal life. Sometimes other areas of my life go lacking and I do hear about it from my wife!!!!! lol With this said, I handled the wife part by agreeing to a certain block of time for the computer, which can take up time and included her in what I’m doing to allow her to see first hand, what’s going on. Now she understands a little more about this part of things. Now I’m working towards cutting back the other time, which I have let get away from me. How do I get it back? I haven’t fished in so long, I’ve forgotten how to even set up my pole! lol – Thanks Ms. Jax

Hi Michael,
I hear your struggle and I experience it myself all the time. As my ideas for projects flow, my brand grows and the weeks get more demanding, I find that my time gets divided more and more until I have to stop the process for some reflective evaluation.
Over the years I’ve tried many balancing methods, organizing books and time saving tips but even if you perfect the art of time saving, it really comes down to is this, one simple statement… Stop competing with yourself and start factoring in the things that allow you to relax, recharge your batteries and leave you feeling inspired…..

When your building your own brand and marketing your projects online it’s really easy to focus on the short term while loosing sight of the whole picture. Let me give you some key points that may help to ease your stress and get you back on track.

Be realistic: Learning how to market and build a brand is a commitment. It takes focus, passion, determination and time. Although you may have the first three traits in order, the time factor isn’t what you think. By time I mean you must consider your brand as a business that will evolve and strengthen over time with your consistent steady effort. It’s important to be realistic about your goals. If you set really challenging ones that don’t leave you with any time to enjoy your life, then your just being way to hard on yourself.

Thanks for the great question and honest comment. Jacqueline Jax – Host of www.AvALiveRadio.com

Top 10 Tips For Better Tip Management
1) Prepare: Being prepared for the day ahead is key to staying focused and not loosing your mind. Creating a task list for the next day the night before will help you relax, sleep better and clear your mind so you can get some much needed rest. I start to prepare my task list at 6pm before I stop working and after I’ve finished email. Keep you task list handy so you can add things before you go to bed or in the morning while your getting ready for you day.

2) Schedule Your Time: Use a day planner to schedule in time to live your life. Your day planner should have time blocked out for each of your tasks as well as appointments, social media and email. Most importantly don’t forget to schedule in breaks, meals and free time. By creating a schedule you’ll not only feel more in control of your time, you’ll feel more in control of your life. This is what my typical day looks like: 7-8am wake up coffee and email :: 8-9am get ready workout :: 9-10am breakfast with my family :: 10-12pm work :: 12-1 pm lunch with friends :: 1-3pm work :: 3-4pm break, walk :: 4-5pm email :: 5-6pm work :: 6-6:30pm Make my schedule for tomorrow :: 6:30pm on free time… (Dinner, social media, play time) 10pm get to bed.

3) Start Early: Have you ever noticed that successful people all tend to go to bed early and wake up early? To be on your game, calm and thinking clearly you must arrange your life so that you get enough sleep. Typically I need 8hours for my best self to shine through but you have to do what works best for you. Just keep this in mind, your head is clearest and able to handle the most difficult tasks early in the day when your rested. Late risers tend to be sluggish and slower at accomplishing tasks over the coarse of the day so consider that fact if your playing or working late into the evening. Eventually that schedule will catch up with you.

4) Get Organized: Being organized helps you to find things, think clearly and stay focused. If your looking for things all the time and unable to remember what your supposed together done, you’ll drive yourself crazy and waste a ton of time. Get yourself a system that works for you and stick with it. I use a day planner for details and daily tasks, huge monthly calendar where I can write an over view, and legal pads or my iPad to write my articles, interview questions, and stories. To keep everything organized I have a filing cabinet and files that hold my papers on previous or future topics and projects so when I need to refer back to my notes like “Top 10 Twitter tips” I can find them in an instant.

5) Prime Time: Its really important that you get in touch with your most productive time of day. If mornings are your most productive, then schedule your most difficult tasks in the mornings. By Scheduling your most difficult tasks during this time, you’ll breeze through it and be able to stay focused. Just be careful to consider the accessibility of others if they are required to complete your tasks. You don’t want tone held up waiting for others in order to finish what you started.
Watch the Clock: Even if you have to use a timer, it’s important to take breaks when your supposed to in order to avoid project fatigue. My best example for this is during video edits. Video editing is always a task that takes longer than expected so even if I can’t finish, I always put it away when I’m supposed to so that when I can come back to it, I’m fresh and more productive.

6) Social media time: Handling your social media postings is supposed to be fun but if you have really popular pages it can get to be a time consuming task getting back to everyone and keeping your pages updated. I recommend checking on your pages during the most active times and on specific days. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays join in on Twitter and add new content to Facebook for 15 min mornings or evenings. Tuesday and Thursday respond to blog comments 30 minutes. Fridays: spend 1 hour analyzing your traffic at your blog or website.

7) Auto posting: This is such an amazing way to automatically feed valuable content to your social media pages. Most blog builder sites like WordPress and tumblr have an auto post setting that will share your posts automatically to your social media feeds. Be sure to make sure that you pages auto feed to at least one other social media page. For instance, when I post an article on my WordPress blog I have it set so it automatically sends that post out to my Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, tumblr and reverbnation page. This is a terrific way to make sure that you are keeping all your social media pages up to date.

8) Keeping Notes: one of my best time saving tips that I use constantly is keeping notes. I have a legal pad that I keep by my side and of coarse my phone for jotting down ideas. It really helps when I’m ready to update my social media pages with content, when I need to remember ideas I had for articles, and especially when I need to remember those amazing ideas I have lying in bed at night. LoL

9) Relax: I saved one of the best for last. Incorporating the word “Relax” into my thoughts and actions is very important to me. When you have a very busy schedule and lots of people in your life, it really helps to know yourself and recognize when it’s time to relax. Keeping your calm is essential to staying productive because if you have a melt down, consider yourself out for the count. Melt downs cause your brain to freeze and slide your body into an intense exhaustion that kills your creativity and renders you incapable of making good decisions. So do yourself a favor, remind yourself that your life is not a race, your building a life you’ve always dreamed of and you are in total control of your schedule. It is only as busy as YOU allow it to be.

Marketing Tip of The Day: SEO Tips For Using Headers and Bold Type

20130411-000443.jpg

As I’m sure you know, when you create a heading in your content, it creates an HTML tag that crawlers can see. Ok so maybe you didn’t know that.. Well you do now! These tags tell the crawler that these words are important. (It looks like

for example). Your site does the same thing with bold words, with tags like this Tags. It can look a little awkward, but using bold words and phrases and headings to highlight important keywords in your posts will alert search engines to your content and help get you better search engine ratings.

Marketing Tip of The Day: SEO Keys to Keywords

20130405-085414.jpg

I know you’ve heard it before but search engine optimization is important. When you are trying to drive traffic to a website, the best and cheapest way to do so is through search engine traffic. Paying someone to do the work for you, isn’t a bad idea but that still won’t guarantee results. It all depends on finding the right keywords that will not only attract the right clients to your company or brand but will also be keywords that people are searching for.
Keywords and keyword phrases are the terms readers are entering into search engines, such as Google to find things.

Here are some quick Tips, that with help you to use SEO keywords to get traffic to your website.

1) Use Google Keywords : Google has a Keyword Tool called “sktool” which allows you to search keywords and see how many people are looking for particular topics, and how competitive the keywords are. (Try it here)

2) Write content on your website that utilizes the selected SEO keywords liberally. You want to use the keywords often in your writing, while not changing the meaning of the content or having it read unnaturally. You should include the SEO keywords at least twice per paragraph but be careful not to spam the same ones over and over.

3) Add the SEO keywords into other areas of your website. Not only should the SEO keywords be in your written content, but it should be in the titles, meta titles, meta descriptions, image descriptions, link tags and anywhere else you can showcase your keywords. So the next time your saving a photo, use your name and keywords in the title.

4) Keep an eye on which SEO keywords are driving traffic to your website. After a while, you can figure out which SEO keywords you should concentrate on and which ones aren’t worth the time and effort by checking your website or blog stats.

Marketing Tip of The Day: Don’t Put We Ahead of You and Me

Email marketing
Just in case you were wondering what address you should use when speaking to your readers, here is one thing you should avoid at all costs. Unless your speaking for a group of people or a band, emails or any other marketing materials opening with the word “we” should be avoided. Your readers want to hear from you, not we… Prospects don’t care about the company behind the product or offer until they are in company evaluation mode.. In lead generation it’s OK to mention who the company is and include a brief statement of its expertise or focus, but that copy should appear after the offer and call to action have been made clear.
As a rule, speak to your people like your speaking to a friend. Use a comfortable and relaxed attitude that will appeal to your target market.

Marketing Tip of The Day: 3 Tips for a Mobile Friendly Web Page
No Flash- Flash is cool in normal web browsers but it won’t display on many mobile devices. Instead embed YouTube links and use a few brilliant images to make your statement.

Simplify Navigation- Links are not always easy to click on a smart phone, so keep your navigation simple.

Easy Read- try to keep the important information upfront and easy to find. Things like contact information, mission statements, product links or subscriber opt ins should be front and center.

Marketing Tip of The Day: Fund Your Projects with Stage It

Stage itMarketing Tip of The Day: Fund Your Projects with Stage It

Don’t become an “I don’t have the money now” victim. Ask the people who can really help you the most: your fans! Involving your fans in fund raising is definitely a win, win situation. You’ll not only gain fans during your promotion efforts but its a great way for your current fans to take a more active roll in supporting your projects.

For instance:
The band Marillion reportedly raised $725,000 by pre-selling its Anoraknophobia double-CD album before it was ever recorded and Jill Sobule raised more than $80,000 from about 500 fans to record her California Years album.

So now that I have you all excited about the concept, this week I’m giving you a bunch of ideas for raising funds so be sure to subscribe to the web site so you won’t miss a single day.

Have you heard about “Stage It”? This web site loans you the use of their technology to schedule a live performance for your fans where they can give you money before and during the performance. There is a small fee, however, the ability to speak with a ton of fans at once as often as you like and from anywhere is convenient and so much fun. Your fans will love the one on one feel and ability to txt you messages while leaving you “Tips” to help fund your projects.

Tips: Plan a late evening show that does not compete with anything else like a holiday or football game. Plan ahead and start advertising your show daily to make sure your fans know about it in advance and feel that you really want them there. Offer some free giveaways to the biggest contributors like a copy of your upcoming or current CD, tee shirt or autographed poster.

Marketing Tip of The Day: Raise Money Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding ava live radio marketing tipsMarketing Tip of The Day: Crowdfunding

If your a smart musician or entrepreneur, you’ll want to consider some strong fund raising options that will help you move forward. This week my marketing tip of the day will center around ideas for raising funds. Today lets talk about Crowdfunding. If you have already started to build strong relationships with your fans, it’s now time to start rallying support behind your music. Crowdfunding is a great way to do that. The idea is to ask for small donations from large groups of people to support your music. Whether you are recording a new release, shooting a video, or marketing your music – you can crowdfund your project with a web site and paypal account or start a campaign using one of the fund raising web sites like: Crowdfunding or Tunefund No matter which way you choose to receive your payments, there will be a small fee for handling the transactions but it’s well worth the effort. Over time, you can raise alot of money from avid supporters, friends and family.

Tips: The big thing is to talk about it all the time! Ask for a donation to your web site for birthdays and holidays, make cards to give to your friends and family asking for a donation of support, start an email campaign offering a free download for their support.

Marketing Tip Of The Day: Color Builds Your Brand

Color branding logos

Marketing Tip Of The Day: Color Builds Your Brand

Associating your brand with a color scheme is one key factor in making an impression. It’s a crucial element in brand identity. Think of facebook and you picture the blue “F”, Coca-Cola is red, Superman is the big red “S” on a yellow and blue background… So it makes sense that when you plan an email or newsletter, you should stay within your brands color scheme. If your web site has a dark background with white letters and a silver logo, that’s a color scheme. Or perhaps your using red, blue and yellow on your logo with a white background. Which ever you choose, keep it consistent throughout all your pages and be sure to include those colors somehow every time you add type to an image. After a short time, people will associate your brand with a particular look, feel and color scheme without even knowing it.  I’ll be talking more about selecting the right color schemes for your brand in my next Fast Track online webinar on March 20th. Marketing Tip Of The Day: Use HTML with Text Backup

20130301-001258.jpg

Use HTML with Text Backup
While text-only newsletters were common a few years ago, times have changed, and most people prefer to receive their newsletters in HTML. But it’s still a good idea to have a text version as back up for the handful of recipients that cannot read email in HTML, or prefer text.  Look for a program that will automatically create a text version with one click.

Marketing Tip Of The Day: Content Crazy Emails

20130301-001602.jpg

Marketing Tip Of The Day: Content Crazy Emails

We talk alot about how to market great content but rarely do I find anyone instructing on how to create excellent content that may be more attractive to your readers, friends, fans, etc. To help, I called upon several of my marketing gurus who are members of the A.V.A Live Radio community, here’s what they recommended.

1) Make it interactive. Include a quick poll relating to your industry topic. Allow your readers to participate and be heard. Don’t forget to include a share button to pass it along to a friend.

2) Have a voice. Express an opinion about your topic of interest, similar to what bloggers do. If your company has a blog, this is a great place to link to your latest post. If you have a music page, lead your topic into a reason to listen to one of your songs or watch your video. If you sell products, include a link where you can buy a product that supports your opinion.

3) Have fun. Don’t make your news all about business 24-7. Share a joke, a funny picture or a funny story. If you a musician, share some pictures from your last recording session and tell the story like a diary entry. If your a blogger, switch things up and be creative by writing about something whimsical that strikes your interest today. If your an artists, how about a cool how to or DYI Sunday project.

Marketing Tip of The Day: Test Your Campaigns

20130301-091444.jpg

Marketing Tip of The Day: Test Your Campaigns
It’s really important to test your email and newsletter campaigns. In previous tips, I have already covered writing effective titles for your emails and newsletters as well as what not to include in your title.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a clear formula for writing effective subject lines. Plus, every subject format won’t work every time or with every audience. So test your campaigns by changing up your subject format for every mailing (and even try split-testing each mailing by segmenting your list), and checking your stats to see how the subjects perform. Then tweak and modify until you find a formula that works for your audience.

Marketing Tip Of The Day: Avoid the Spam Triggers

Marketing Tip Of The Day: Avoid the Spam Triggers

Every ISP (Internet Service Provider) has spam filters in place to catch unwanted messages before they reach your readers inbox. It’s not a perfect system so unless you want your email getting caught in a spam filter, here are some key words to avoid in your subject line.

Sale, Free, 50% Off, Click Here, Call Now, Act Now, Order Now, Guaranteed, Subscribe, Opportunity

Another things to avoid:
– Writing your subject in ALL CAPS
– Using excessive punctuation (multiple exclamation points, breaking up words with periods)

Marketing Tip of The Day: If We Can’t Find You, We Won’t Come

It seems like a no brainer, but I can’t tell you how many times I go to a web site and can’t find the artists upcoming shows and where to see them or the address of a local business or even contact info for a company I want to do business with. I can’t tell you how important these things are for the success of your business. Are you looking to build a subscriber list of people who will be interested in your music, products or service? Have you thought about blogging but don’t think you have the time? Blogging is one of the best ways to attract subscribers who are interested in what you have to offer. The common misunderstanding is that you have to blog all the time. That’s actually not the case. As your getting started the best way to gain subscribers is to spend your valuable time writing quality articles that you will be proud to share often. By focusing more on promotion and less on blogging daily, you’ll have more time to share your masterpieces with the world. Marketing Tip of the Day: Navigation Made Easy

Marketing Tip of the Day: Navigation Made Easy

I’m often unable to easily view additional pages on blogs because the blog design is messy, unorganized or not linked well. If you want to prevent being a one hit wonder, reorganize your blog or web site with a clean design that includes a direct navigation menu at both the top and side bar. Do not make your site a maze for your visitors to try and navigate. Have a simple, clean design with an easy navigational menu. Use short, straightforward, easy-to-read paragraphs. Make all your pages uniform and professional. I also recommend using picture thumbnails for links at the bottom of your blog posts. They act as little previews selling your page to the reader. Images seriously improve your page view stats and add an eye catching element for your readers to enjoy. After all, if you don’t have a fun place to visit, why should anyone come back?

Hot Topic Tuesday Marketing Webinar: Avoid a Death Valley Website

Listen to the show: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/avaliveradio/2013/02/05/marketing-tip-of-the-week-no-death-valley-websites

Marketing Tip of the Day: Web Friendly Websites
No matter what the goal of your business’ website, personal blog or music site is, good design is essential to attracting viewers and keeping them interested. When designing your site, be sure to use clear navigation, avoid bright neon colors that disappear on white making it hard to read, and keep information clear, distinctive and short. Every word counts so you’ll want your text filled with rich key words that make sense without over stating your point. Since indexing web crawlers don’t recognize images, use only important images and make sure they are tagged in their saved titles. If you help your customers get what they want without overwhelming them, you will succeed in creative a web site where buyers and readers will be back for more. Want to see a great web site rich in key words, tagged photos and content? Check out the A.V.A Live Radio this month charting a hefty 41,000+ total page views on the site.

Marketing Tip of the Day : The Power of Permissions
Don’t underestimate the value of permissions marketing. In todays competitive online playing field, if you don’t get permission to be one of the select companies to contact a customer, your marketing strategy will go now where. As people get more computer savvy, spam filters and online viewer tolerance for the uninvited is reaching an all time high so if you want to get in touch with your people, be sure to get permission and spend time making every email count because we are only as interesting as our last email.

Marketing Tip of the Day: Measure Your Social Media Success
If you are using social media to promote your project, blogs, business or music you’ll want to make sure that your efforts are reaching a level of success. In order to measure your level of social media success on any of your posts, you’ll want to pay attention to your audience and their activity. That involves keeping track of how many followers you have and how often they share your content, enter a contest, or post a comment or review; it’s a clear sign of what resonates with your audience and more importantly what doesn’t. You should also compare popular times when most people are online and judge the responses accordingly. Over all, an increase in these numbers leads to better awareness about what your promoting.

Marketing Tip of the Day: No Death Valley Websites
Are you keeping your web site content up to date? Not staying up-to-date with news, blogs, etc is Death Valley for a web site. When you’re active on Facebook and Twitter, it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly updating stuff and doing more than enough. But if someone goes to your site and sees your last entry was posted over a year ago, they’re going to think you’ve got nothing going on and have abandoned your web page. If your actively working on your craft, there are always things to talk about. Think about adding a blog style profile page that links or feed to your front page and shares directly to your social media platforms. This way, you can post your updates on your web site first and share to social media from there like a spider web. Remember your social media pages do not belong to you and can be taken down at any time so start building your web site subscriber list now.
