A.V.A Live Radio Behind The Music

A.V.A Live Radio :: WHO WE ARE
I’m Jacqueline Jax, producer and host of A.V.A Live Radio, “The Voice of the New Music Generation.” www.AvALiveRadio.com
is an indie radio station solely dedicated to helping the struggling independent artists in a new and innovative way. Our station not only provides new artists with a platform to tell their story, we get their music heard by finding just the right people to get the music in front of. From movies to management, we don’t only play the best independent artists from around the world, we are working hard behind the scenes to get their music heard by industry professionals who are already searching for movie sound tracks, indie artist tours, commercials, events, and recording contracts. In addition, A.V.A Live Radio also provides a mentoring program where artists give back to other artists, educational resources on the music industry as well as personal and business branding from industry professionals in our community to those who need help thru our Game Changers Series interviews. We are committed to staying a 100% Commercial FREE Radio station, free from censorship just like the independent artists we support.
ARTIST MENTORING PROGRAM
Something that you may not be aware of is our mentoring program that happens behind the scenes. Every artist who submits music for airplay is reviewed and evaluated by knowledgeable music industry professionals for recording quality, vocal ability and creative originality. If an artist isn’t ready to go live, we provide them with an experienced mentor to help them with guidance. The amazing people who mentor for A.V.A Live Radio are all talented artists and music industry professionals happy to give back to our music community because they believe in our vision and know how important this step is to a new artist.
A PLACE TO GROW
Artists need encouragement, knowledge, experience, and a place to grow. A place with no boundaries, no limitations, a place where they feel comfortable being themselves. As an artist myself, I have looked to surround myself with supportive people and consider myself very lucky to be a part if this amazing community that has gathered around the A.V.A. As the host of this amazing show, I have had the ability to see first hand what this station has brought to new artists over the three years we have been working towards this vision and I know that we make a difference in people’s lives and I believe that this station has the capabilities to help people all over the world on levels of education, inspiration, creativity, culture, and community. I am so excited to see you all become a part of our A.V.A Live Radio Team.
RISKS AND CHALLENGES

With your generous donations, we have been doing it successfully for 3 solid seasons and we are currently setting a goal to triple our programming. Up Close and Personal with Ed Concepcion

Jacqueline:: What are three things that would surprise us to know about you?
Ed::
  1.  I originally moved to South Florida to be an airplane mechanic but quit school to play music.
  2. I used to be a worship leader for a program in the Salvation Army and turned worship into metal.
  3. I didn’t start singing until I moved to Florida at 25 years old.
Jacqueline:: How do you feel about the music business today?
Ed:: I feel it is in much need of passion. The music industry has become dulled down and bubble gum. It needs the passionate artists that wrote epic songs that live on forever! Who will write the songs that will be charting 20 years later?
Jacqueline:: Name three words that best describe you and why?
Ed:: High-energy,crazy,passionate. High energy because I am at 100 miles an hour as soon as I wake until I sleep. People half my age can’t keep up with me. Crazy because I will say almost anything at anytime to crack someone up and put a smile on their face. Passionate because of the feeling I put into EVERYTHING I do. If it’s not worth putting my whole heart into it, I won’t attempt it at all.
Jacqueline:: Who was the single most influential person in your music journey so far?
Ed:: My mother for starting it.
Jacqueline:: What has been the most successful thing you have done to publicize your music thus far?
Ed:: Hands down, it would have to be Reverbnation along with facebook and youtube. All 3 cross promote very well.

Personal note from Artist:

It all started for me when I was 14 and I asked my dad for a saxophone. Now there is a sexy instrument. My dad was too cheap so he bought me a clarinet. Nothing sexy about that! Me? On a woodwind? Never!  So I did what any manipulative 14 year old boy with divorced parents would do. I asked my mom for a guitar and this started a life-long passion for writing and playing music. I was always into the heavier side of everything listening to bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Anthrax, and OverKill. My admiration for bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd came much later in life. I grew up on the Jersey shore playing in various projects as a rhythm guitarist. I moved to South Florida in 1993 and met guitarist Eric Wright. That’s when things started really taking off and I realized my potential as a lead singer and song writer. Eric had a lot of music written and needed lyrics and vocal melodies. They flowed out of me like wine and Shattered Reality was formed. The first time we hit the stage was 1 year later at a battle of the bands at the Plus Five in Fort Lauderdale. We chose to go all original. We slaughtered the competition! When we got off stage, strangers asked us to sign their tickets because they thought we were going to be famous quickly. Sadly that was not the case. We dominated the local metal scene and broke up 2 years later. I played in various projects over the next 3 years writing music the whole time but never sharing it with the bands I was in because there was nothing serious. Then I met guitarist Steve Mirable who had amazing abilities but could not write. With my song writing and his shredding we formed Warfare but when auditioning bass players, we could not find a committed one. So, after much frustration, I became a bass player. Then we found Roman Vohsalik, who was exactly the drummer we were looking for, and we were now Warfare the power trio, sounding like a cross between Iron Maiden, Metalica, Rush, and Kiss. Once again, we hit the stage a year later with all originals, and blew the crowd away with our originality, stage presence, and tightness. I believe that music should be done right. A true depiction of the artist/songwriter’s heart conveyed through the instruments of others. That’s why I took a year from the formation to the unveiling of each serious project, especially when I’m writing the music. Warfare recorded a 9 song LP in 2001 and broke up at the end of 2002. I continued to play the local South Florida scene in various bands and projects until 2009 when I decided to go completely solo due to lack of dedication of others and the heartbreak associated with the breakup of a band. I concentrated my solo career in Broward County playing places like, Kahunas, American Rock, Cheers,  Crabby Jack’s, and numerous gigs in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami/Dade area. I moved from Deerfield Beach to Delray Beach in 2012 were I continue to write and play cutting edge, original music.

Regards, Ed Concepcion

Music From: Iridesense, Ryan Stone, and Jesse Potter.

Get to know the artist:
Born with a powerhouse voice, Laurie Cairns began singing at eight years of age when she joined the church choir in her hometown of Aurora, Illinois. As she grew older, she became aware of different styles of music.  “The first time I heard Barbara Streisand’s voice, I was in awe. I had never heard anything like that. It was then that I knew that music could touch the soul.”  In high school, Cairns began listening to 60′s rock and 70′s funk, which became part of her own sound. Soon, “The Laurie Cairns Band” was born and performing throughout the Chicagoland area. She later became lead vocalist for groups such as Counterpoint, bliss and Cobalt and performed at many clubs in Chicago including the Cue Club, The Beat Kitchen and Schuba’s. During this time Cairns showcased her versatility through interpretations of Patsy Cline, Melissa Etheridge, No Doubt and Heart and even gave Muddy Waters a run for his money on her rendition of Hoochie Coochie Man.  Motivated by other women performers, Cairns is moved by the pain in Etta James voice, loves the power of Kelly Clarkson’s rock and is inspired by Sheryl Crow’s storytelling.  “I have such an eclectic taste in music, but one constant is my interest in the human experience.”  Now working on a solo career Cairns is recording her own music. She writes about finding love on her terms and accepting change, letting love in and knowing when to let go. Songs such as As I Am and You Don’t Know open her heart up to the audience and leave her vulnerable to scrutiny.  “Everyone has their own heartbreak and their own joy. I feel fortunate that I am able to share mine through my music.”  Cairns would love to one day work with producers such as Glen Ballard and Robert John “Mutt” Lange. “Music for me has always been about following my heart and doing what I love. It is a passion that I will forever pursue.” Cairns manages to say it best with her own lyrics…”Sweet , sweet morning. Morning’s on its way.”

1. Three things that would surprise you about me.
My favorite kind of food is Korean BBQ.. there’s something about the taste that I really enjoy. I’m a big Lost fan and pretty much anything by JJ Abrams. I used to work as a baggage handler at Toronto international Airport and really enjoyed being around planes.

2. I have mixed feelings about the music business.
On one hand I feel like there are so many ways to connect with your fans, produce videos, record and get out there. At the same time I feel that consumers feel overwhelmed and saturated with all the music that is out there that the perceived value of music has dropped. I used to enjoy buying albums and enjoying the entire project as opposed to just buying the songs that you hear on the radio. The good news is that I feel like I am getting closer each day at figuring out how to connect with people and help them experience my music for it’s lyrical content and the stories associated with them.

3. Three words that describe you.
Fun, Bright, and Pumped. Life is too short to take yourself serious and humor is a great way to connect with people. My lyrics and music will also have a bright positive message in it.. it will make you feel better and I hope that I can make people excited about their selves and the relationships around them.

4. Single most influential is a tough one.. but I would have to say it’s Billy Joel. I love his songwriting, energy, and the variety of themes he has written about.

 5. My goals are to continue writing songs that people will use as the soundtrack of there lives. My songs will be heard by a lot more people across the country and the world. Besides currently writing, recording, and touring I also run a music school called the Rock Zone and I help other budding songwriters learn the process of being developing artists. As of July I am relocating to Nashville and I have promised myself to be open to learning new things there.

1) What are three things that would surprise us to know about you?
Luis Alas: I worked for most of my professional career as a law enforcement officer, including as a Federal Air Marshal after 9/11.
2) How do you feel about the music business today?
Luis Alas: I this is a very interesting time for music. Between social media, online radio and download technology, when was it possible for an unsigned artist to get recognized and listened to in Asia, Europe and beyond? Because people no longer have to buy a complete album, now artists need to make every song count. It is exciting time indeed.
3) Name three words that best describe you and why?
Luis Alas: Tenacious: If I believe in something, I will not quit till I get the outcome I want or need. I will work as hard as it takes and do what ever it takes to make it happen.
Passionate: I don’t think anyone in this industry can do what they do without being passionate about music.
Romantic: Though I love funk and soul, I absolutely love romantic music. It is music that allows me to express feelings in the most profound ways.
4) Who was the single most influential person in your music journey so far?
Luis Alas: Wow, this is a tough one. There have been so many that have had a deep impact but I will boil it down to two. My wife and friend Johnny Holliday, both believed in me that I could be a solo artist. To my wife I have always been the greatest sax player, she will listen to Koz or Marienthal and say your style is different than theirs but just as good.
My buddy Johnniw Holliday a fellow musician which I have worked with for over 20 years. After playing for him at the Jazz In The Gardens Festival in Miami, he told me; “I’m sorry, but I won’t be hiring you any more as my sax player.” when I asked why, he replied; “You need to be on stage on your own as a solo artist.. With you I will never play sax on stage cause you out play me. Even as an artist, you out perform me. You need to go solo so hopefully I can open for you some day.” and that is the day I started working on becoming a solo artist.
5) What are your music plans for the future? Where would you like to be in 2 years?
Luis Alas: I hope to have my album out this fall at the latest, and hope that the rest of the album is received like the single. If it is, I hope to tour. Within two years, I hope to have a better organized management team, be touring and working on album #2.

Also With Music From: Johnny Juarez, Joshua Stedman, Jesse Potter, Shauna Sweeney, Lani Nash, Monte Rosa, Underground Junction and Ryan Stone.

Featured Artist: Dance Pop Artist Irene B

Jacqueline-Jax-ShowInterview:
Jacqueline Jax: What are three things that would surprise us to know about you?
Irene B.: Well, first thing for your audience that listens to my music and don’t know about me. I’m from Barcelona, Spain and I sing R&B in English. Everybody seems to be surprised for both my choice of genre and language. I grew up listening to R&B music in English, so it’s like natural to me. You can barely notice my accent singing (but you can talking). Second, I’m a pretty introverted person, even being a singer, I hate phones… weird uh? Third: I am not only a singer, but I love the music business, I spend most of my days reading about the state of the industry today. So much I have a Youtube show called “Diary Of An Indie Artist” where I show artists the “business” part of the music business.

Jacqueline: How do you feel about the music business today?
Irene B: Even though it’s a hard time for everybody (specially with the economic crisis we’re all going through) I think it’s a great opportunity for new artists, due to the growing of new ways to promote music like social networking, online radio stations, podcasts, etc. The problem is how to monetize music and make a living out of being an artist, but I have faith in the future of the industry.

Jacqueline: Name three words that best describe you and why?
Irene B: Stubborn: Although I’m open to new ideas, I do have some things very clear and I don’t mind telling people in their faces I don’t like something, lol!
Hard worker: I work 24/7 on my music, both literally (songwritting, singing, etc) and as far as my business.
Dreamer: Although I always like to be realistic, I still have a very fantasy-driven part of me that allows me to take flight every now and then!

Jacqueline: Who was the single most influential person in your music journey so far?
Irene B: If we’re talking about singers I’ve never met, I would say Mariah Carey inspired me the most, I probably wouldn’t be singing if it wasn’t for her. As far as people around me, my husband and producer Frankie Biggz has shown me pretty much everything I know about the music business, he’s so talented and giving, I thank God everyday I have him in my life!

Featured Artist: Shamiah Trenae

Shamiah music artist
Shamiah is a singer/writer/performer that is going to fit in among the music industries elite artist with no problem. She is fun, looks good, and is actually talented (no pun intended). If compared, she is a mixture of Lisa Left Eye, Pink, and Rihanna. She can have you rocking in the club with records like her single “Nothing Like This”and “You Can’t Tell Me Nothing” to having you laid back with a sweet serenade such as “Love” another one of her hit songs. She is the total package, eye and ear candy wrapped in one!
Shamiah music artist

Shamiah Trenae- ” I currently attend Middle Tennessee State University. I was born in Beloit, Wisconsin and later moved to Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 6. Music and dance have always been my inspiration. I started off singing and dancing at the age of 8 in the church choir. As I got older, music started to mean more to me. As my whole family started singing, it began to grow on me. I decided that I wanted to become an entertainer while in college. Music is sort of a get-away for me. To me, music is a form of expression.”

Interview:
Jacqueline Jax: Tell me 3 interesting facts about yourself.
Shamiah Trenae: I love sports! My favorite teams are the LA Lakers and the Greenbay Packers!
I am originally from Beloit, WI. And I’ve played college rugby for 2 years!

Jacqueline: How do you feel about the music business today?
Shamiah: I feel it is very wide ranged and a hard profession to break into. It could either make or break an artist so you better be prepared. I feel like if you get where you want, it would be well worth the experience in the end.

Jacqueline: What 3 words best define your music and why?
Shamiah: Positive, fun and inspiring.
I am trying to bring something back to music by keeping it positive and fun. Music that does what it was made for, makes you want to sing along and dance with the beat. I also can slow it down with an inspiring ballad that hopefully can help some people get through the very same problems I have been through.

Personal Interview:
Jacqueline Jax: Tell me something surprising about yourself
Robb Hill: I grew up on a sheep farm, was a goalie in hockey from age 7-17, and I teach tennis. I’ve also performed stand-up comedy, and use it now to liven up music shows.

Jacqueline: What do you feel is important for an artist to to consider in today’s music business?
Robb: Having a phenomenal live act that an audience remembers for uniqueness should help in an artist’s success. An advantage is it’s easier to get your music onto public avenues, but there’s so much information/ clutter that true music lovers have to dig for the gold. It’s challenging, but in the end I feel that well written songs with your full heart and energy in them will prevail.  Hopefully the public with realize their $1.00 song contribution is more important than currently thought. Less free streaming, and more supporting.

Jacqueline: What have you always wanted to do if your ever given the chance?
Robb: Performing my music around the world, and being able to take in the history and timeless sites
each country has to offer.

Jacqueline: Which words best define your music?
Robb: Heartfelt- through experience, mistakes and learning, I’ve seen and felt many facets of life
Energy- my passion and upbeat rhythm get the audience in dance mode
Familiar- I feel my music relates to many people that have experienced the good and the bad of life
Motivated- I enjoy the challenge and fulfillment of writing a great song, and sharing it with the people
Creative- I enjoy making new music and art, as well as organizing one-of-a-kind music shows with other acts
Adventurous- I’m always open to travel, taking chances on new ventures, and seeing where it can lead
